Crime in the UAE
Introduction about Crime:
Crime is an
illegal activity that constitutes a violation against law (crime - definition of
crime by the Free Online Dictionary). Nowadays
crime is counted as an offence against the public or the state; as well crime
has many forms which depend on the location, disclosure, intended crime,
prepared crime, incomplete & complete crime. (Crime - Wikipedia, the free
encyclopedia.)
Crime has been considered as the most
important problem worldwide; manly crime is a result of poor national security,
unemployment, high cost of living, low health care and poverty. (Muncie, John,
and Eugene McLaughlin. The problem of crime.)
Crimes in the UAE
The UAE is considered to be one of the
lowest countries in crime. However there are many incidents which occur: petty theft,
scam theft, sexual harassments and fatal car accidents are the most common
crimes reported in the UAE. (https://www.osac.gov)
One of the major crimes in the UAE is
drugs smuggling. As a transship country many Asians are attempting to import
illegal drugs to the Emirates; however the UAE has zero tolerance against
importing such things.
Prostitution and women trafficking are
considered one of the main crimes in the UAE which can caused by the effect of war
in some countries such as Iraq; as well other nationalities such as Russia,
China, Ukraine, India and Morocco are involved in such crime. (Crime in the
United Arab Emirates – Wikipedia)
One of the well-known
related problems to crime in the UAE is women being secretive about reporting
different forms of crimes and violence to the police. The main reason for this
particular problem is because of the “Code of Honor”; this phenomenon
has been revealed because women are in fear of society’s contempt. (Why UAE
women won't report crimes against them - Emirates 24/7.)
Some
of the other cases are related to social crimes in the UAE, such as child
abuse. This problem is caused by corrupted family relationships, divorce and
married couples cheating. A good example of this kind of crime is that an eight
years old young girl was tortured to death by her father and his girlfriend.
According to Dubai police, the guilty father accused his ex-wife of killing his
innocent
daughter by claiming
that
his ex-wife and her mother cast a spell on him; as well he asked the court to
reveal this truth to the public. However, the court had sentenced an execution
for the father after investigations.
Solutions for crimes in the UAE
The
police in the UAE are doing the main role in the country’s safety. Abu Dhabi
police are in charge of providing security to the citizens and applying
criminal law, as well as keeping order and peace among the city. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Dhabi_)
In
the UAE, undercover police aka CID contributes in the safety of the city; they are
well known by The Crime Prevention Unit which runs undercover patrols, and
conducts educational campaigns and CCTV monitors around the city to insure
safety all the time. (http://www.7daysindubai.com/Dubai-Police)
For example,
Dubai police provide some appreciated services to the individuals and companies.
These services are considered as the best security initiative to protect the society
of the UAE from unexpected crimes. One of those services is Al Ameen; this service
provides a highly confidential reporting communication system between people
and the Dubai police about criminal activities. ("Dealing
with police.". N.p., n.d. Web. 3 June 2013.)
One of the
other methods of fighting crimes in the UAE is using the latest technologies by
the police, such as issuing traffic fines by using voice commands which will
speed the process in fining reckless drives. (m.gulfnews.com/news/uae/dubai-police-use-voice-command-technology-to-issue-traffic-fines-1.1187602)
