Crime in the UAE

Introduction about Crime:

Crime is an illegal activity that constitutes a violation against law (crime - definition of crime by the Free Online Dictionary). Nowadays crime is counted as an offence against the public or the state; as well crime has many forms which depend on the location, disclosure, intended crime, prepared crime, incomplete & complete crime. (Crime - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.)
Crime has been considered as the most important problem worldwide; manly crime is a result of poor national security, unemployment, high cost of living, low health care and poverty. (Muncie, John, and Eugene McLaughlin. The problem of crime.)

Crimes in the UAE

The UAE is considered to be one of the lowest countries in crime. However there are many incidents which occur: petty theft, scam theft, sexual harassments and fatal car accidents are the most common crimes reported in the UAE. (https://www.osac.gov)
One of the major crimes in the UAE is drugs smuggling. As a transship country many Asians are attempting to import illegal drugs to the Emirates; however the UAE has zero tolerance against importing such things.
Prostitution and women trafficking are considered one of the main crimes in the UAE which can caused by the effect of war in some countries such as Iraq; as well other nationalities such as Russia, China, Ukraine, India and Morocco are involved in such crime. (Crime in the United Arab Emirates – Wikipedia)
One of the well-known related problems to crime in the UAE is women being secretive about reporting different forms of crimes and violence to the police. The main reason for this particular problem is because of the “Code of Honor”; this phenomenon has been revealed because women are in fear of society’s contempt. (Why UAE women won't report crimes against them - Emirates 24/7.)
Some of the other cases are related to social crimes in the UAE, such as child abuse. This problem is caused by corrupted family relationships, divorce and married couples cheating. A good example of this kind of crime is that an eight years old young girl was tortured to death by her father and his girlfriend. According to Dubai police, the guilty father accused his ex-wife of killing his innocent daughter by claiming that his ex-wife and her mother cast a spell on him; as well he asked the court to reveal this truth to the public. However, the court had sentenced an execution for the father after investigations.

Solutions for crimes in the UAE

The police in the UAE are doing the main role in the country’s safety. Abu Dhabi police are in charge of providing security to the citizens and applying criminal law, as well as keeping order and peace among the city. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Dhabi_)
In the UAE, undercover police aka CID contributes in the safety of the city; they are well known by The Crime Prevention Unit which runs undercover patrols, and conducts educational campaigns and CCTV monitors around the city to insure safety all the time. (http://www.7daysindubai.com/Dubai-Police)
For example, Dubai police provide some appreciated services to the individuals and companies. These services are considered as the best security initiative to protect the society of the UAE from unexpected crimes. One of those services is Al Ameen; this service provides a highly confidential reporting communication system between people and the Dubai police about criminal activities. ("Dealing with police.". N.p., n.d. Web. 3 June 2013.)

One of the other methods of fighting crimes in the UAE is using the latest technologies by the police, such as issuing traffic fines by using voice commands which will speed the process in fining reckless drives. The History Of Boxing

Fist fighting was a game played by gods according to ancient Greek beliefs ("The History of Boxing. Web. 25 Mar). In the earliest Olympics, Roman athletes competed with each other without any rules related to weight differences or a referee to interrupt. In order for the match to end, one of the fighters should be knocked-out or he should raise his hand as a sign for capitulation. ("boxing: Early History | Infoplease.com.Web. 23 Mar. 2013.)

Romans were interested in the sport of boxing that made it the favorite sport for the audience to watch. Fighters used to protect themselves by wrapping leather strips around their fists; and to insure enthusiasm during the match, Romans added metal studs to the strips that made it a brutal and a savage sport to please the audience. (Holland, Gary.Web. 23 Mar. 2013.)

At the end of the Roman Empire, boxing suddenly vanished; however, it started to appear again in the 17th century in England. In the year 1880, the 1st officially amateur match was held with only 5 weight classes to be contested.  After that boxing competitions appeared for the first time in 1908 at the Olympic games of St. Louis USA, where the Americans had the biggest share of all the medals. (" Equipment and History ." Olympics | Olympic Medal)

So through the years of boxing history, many related things to it have been changed such as, fighting and teaching techniques, as well ring rules; especially in 1866, the game development was more recognizable as the modern era of boxing thanks to the Marquess of Queensberry who implemented a set of new rules which are named after him.
These rules introduced the three-minutes boxing match, wrestling prohibition and finally fighting using gloves. After that, revolutionary changes were done by John Douglas the founder of modern day boxing in 1865; he participated in a Systematic Game of Boxing which is related to 12 fixed rules with the most notable ones like approved standards of boxing gloves. ("History Of Boxing." History Of Boxing. N.p., n.d. Web. 17 Apr. 2013.)

Modern boxing has a huge effect on changing the sport history. As the game developed, it created strict and clear rules in time. Nowadays we have amateur boxing and professional boxing. Amateur boxers are not allowed to be paid to fight; as well this type of boxing requires wearing safety fighting gear which mostly protects the head from heavy punches. This type of boxing is involved with the Olympic Games and different related events.
Professional boxing is the type where fighters are paid to fight. Safety fighting gear is not allowed during the match. Unlike the participation of amateur boxing in the Olympic Games, professional boxing has its own championship of different categories of weights; as well it contains 12 rounds of 3 minutes each.
The highest award for professional boxers is the world championship belt. Today there are four main organizations like World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (IBF), and World Boxing Organization (WBO).
Boxing in the 21 century became one of the most popular games that gathered millions of dollars History of Boxing | iSport.com." Boxing | iSport.com.
The popularity of the game refers to many well-known fighters such as Mohammed Ali the African American heavyweight champion during the 1960’s; he won 56 out of 61 matches, as well Mike Tyson who was known as one of the best boxers of all time. During his journey of boxing, Mike won 50 matches out of 58; 44 of his wins were ended by a knock-out. Deb, Biplob kishore. "Top 10 Greatest Boxers of All Time.

Summaries Reflection

Reflection about the Horsemen Police in the UAE Summary

Mr. Hedley’s guidance was effective in terms of finding our way through the piece given to us. As we were told, we went through the title, the introduction and the conclusion to help us in summarizing the paper.
It was a quite easy task to do. It talked about how the horsemen police do their patrols in the desert of Liwa; as well what kind challenges they face while roaming around, and what kind of violations they deal with. Moreover, we learnt about the procedures that horsemen police follow  in order not to exhaust the horses.
In the end, my opinion about the piece is that vocabulary was an easy one since it was our first task to do.

Reflection about Car Accidents in the UAE Summary

About this summary, the vocabulary started to be a bit difficult; I learnt the meaning of some new words using the online dictionary that was recommended by Mr. Hedley.
The paper talked about the number of child deaths in the UAE, caused by careless parents not complying with rules and regulations of the Ministry of Interior.
It taught us how important child safety-car seats are; and how it impacted the percentage of children’s deaths and injuries in the UAE.
We got to know that many organizations support children – safety seats by donating these seats; as well their effective contribution in programs designed to make aware parents and children.

Reflection about Pearl Diving In the UAE

In this summary, the difficulty of the vocabulary was an issue for me; I was struggling most of the time while summarizing this paper. However, I found my way through it since it was a short piece.
It basically talks about pearl diving in the UAE during the 1950s; and how Emiratis relied on it as a profitable business, till it started to fade away due to the appearance of the artificial pearl farming.
However, Emiratis embraced the idea of reviving the tradition of the UAE by starting a touring educational eco tour for tourists, which attracted the interest of Journalists.

Summary about Pearl Diving In the UAE

The Arabian Gulf was one of the biggest economies in the world. The number of pearl diving boats reached to more than 1000 boat; but after the 1950s pearl diving started to peter out due to the low income of pearls trading.
The Marine Environmental Group and Jumairah Group joined each other and created a touring educational eco for tourists, which hosts 20 guests to live the experience of pearl diving.
Journalists from the Gulf News were invited to the demo launching of the dhow tour, and they learnt how to search for pearls; as well they have been informed that none of the pearl divers got rich, the dhow trips were their main pleasure.
Pearl trading vanished when pearl farmers started their business, which made expensive pearls affordable and available for buyers.
Emirati divers use to spend weeks searching the sea for the pink pearl which was one of the most expensive pearls of all.
During the dhow tour, traditional clothes, fish and rice are being offered to live the authentic experience of the past.

Summary About Car Accidents In The UAE

Summary About Car Accidents In The UAE
63 per cent of children’s deaths aged 14 and younger are caused by car accidents. Although the fact that the ministry of interior prohibits children younger than 10 years from sitting in the front passenger seat, 20 per cent of children still use the front seat.
There is a small percentage of children who are tied to child safety – car seats which made officials believe that using car seats made a marked change on the traffic injury and health rate in Dubai. The design of child safety – seats is only for infants and toddlers; and booster seats are for children above the age of four. There are car seats which are made to suit different stages of growth, weight and age; this should be born in mind when choosing the suitable child – car seat. The Safe Kids Worldwide programme was made in the USA to prevent childhood injuries; as well this programme helped to implement the law that children under 10 should use the back seat of the car.
The “Take Care” campaign is promoted by RTA, which educates children about road safety; as well it helps in stopping adults from bad habits.
2,134 were killed in the past 10 years, and 23,082 were injured. RTA is aiming to reduce deaths by 40 per cent by 2015.

Summary about horsemen police in UAE – by Saif Jassim Al Zaabi

Summary about horsemen police in UAE – by Saif Jassim Al Zaabi

A group of horsemen police roam around through the desert looking for trouble makers. The horsemen police wear traditional headgear around their forehead to protect them from unpredictable weather changes. These horsemen are part of RAK’s police patrol division that looks after the outside areas of the city which are unreachable by cars; as well these horsemen use mobile phones and walkie – talkies.
The horsemen use silence and stealth during their patrols which will assist them in noticing anything unusual or suspicious. Sometimes buggy drivers try to frighten the horses which is unfortunate, but the horsemen retain their equanimity.
Most of the horsemen are Indians and they go out in groups of six or seven, covering as much ground as possible. The horsemen take a break during summer when rarely any people go to the desert.
Some of the horsemen’s tasks are to help the police in arresting fugitives and drug dealers.
Most of the horsemen shifts are for four hours and sometimes more, so to avoid exhausting the horses during their patrol in an area like Al Awafi, they transport these horses from the stables to the maximum cars can reach, and before going back to the stables, the horsemen calm down the horses by whistling to it.
